Arter

ARTER has been presenting solo and group exhibitions with the goal of providing a platform of visibility for artistic practices and encouraging production of contemporary artworks. Though large, bright and well-lit, Arter is displayed more like a studio than a museum. The building that hosts ARTER is also quite notable. It is situated on Istiklal Avenue, and is it was built in the 1910s by Petraki Efendi, one of the architects of the 6th Municipal District Office. It was recently restored and opened in 2009.

Rodeo Gallery was founded in 2007 by Sylvia Kouvali. Over the years, the gallery’s reputation has increased greatly and now puts on exciting exhibitions from all around the world. Rodeo is considered one of the most thrilling art spaces in Istanbul, displaying high-quality art and an international, avant-garde awareness.

Since its opening, in 2001, Galerist has acted as a bridge between Turkish artists and the international art world. Hosting a range of exhibition in its two locations in Istanbul, Galerist showcases the best of contemporary art in both Eastern and Western culture.

Galeri Nev

Galeri Nev established its space in Istanbul in 1987 and it has been organizing regular exhibitions ever since, with the aim of introducing modern and contemporary art to both local and international audience. The art on show can vary from understated prints and drawings to outlandish sculpture and installations. (In the same building you can also find Galeri Ziberman and Pi ArtWorks)

Galeri Mana

The inaugural show featured idea-led art from the likes of Sol Le Witt and Robin Rhodei, all within the exposed red brick walls of and old wheat mill that wouldn't look out of place in Brooklyn. The shows scheduled to coincide with the Biennale are some of the most exciting in the city and include Berlin-based multi award winner Nasan Tur, whose Arms, a series of photographs of political hand gestures cleverly removed from their context, was included in the first show

Founded in 2004 as Turkey’s first museum of modern and contemporary art, Istanbul Modern has moved to a temporary space in Beyoğlu, where it will welcome visitors from May 2018 onward for three years while its new building is being constructed. The museum offers a variety of cultural activities in its permanent and temporary exhibition halls, photography gallery, spaces for educational and social programs, library, cinema, café, and store.

The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

The Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts

It contains Turkish and Islamic Arts and is known as the last museum that opened in the Ottoman Period. The foundation of the museum was commissioned as a result of continuous steal of artworks from various trust bulidings, mosques, masjids, takas and sbrines from all over the country.

Pera Museum

The main collection consist on Orientalist paintings, Anatolian weights and Ottoman tiles. But modern art fans should keep an eye on the Pera’s top-notch travelling exhibitions by the likes of Picasso, Botero and Chagal. You can experience the shows from top to bottom, working your way downwards over several floors of bright, white, well-polished museum space.

Santral Istanbul

Santral Istanbul

The gallery at Santral is a good bet for a cultural pit-stop on a boat trip up the Golden Horn. The curators put together exhibitions on eclectic international subjects, from German architecture to Italian design and Colombian contemporary art, with the focus switching occasionally to subjects taught at Bilgi University, which occupies most of this enormous converted Ottoman power station.
